Wylie has a little of everything: a historic downtown on Ballard Street, neighborhoods built in every decade since the 1980s, and Lavon Lake right on its north side. Each part of town has its own pests. The lakeside neighborhoods fight mosquitoes. Older homes near downtown deal with termites, roof rats and cockroaches. Newer subdivisions on the edges of town get fire ants, scorpions and field mice. Around the Block Pest Control is a family-owned company that has served Collin County since 2012. We come down from our McKinney office to Wylie every week.

Wylie neighborhoods and their pests
Historic downtown and the older streets around Ballard: Pier-and-beam and older slab homes, mature trees and aging wood. We check closely for termites, roof rats and American cockroaches (the big "water bugs") that come up from drains and crawl spaces.
Lakeside neighborhoods near Lavon Lake and the Lavon Dam area: Coves and shoreline brush keep mosquitoes going all summer. Spiders build up around boathouses, porches and lake-facing lights.
Woodbridge: Homes along the golf course and greenbelts. The ponds bring mosquitoes, and the open turf brings fire ants and crickets.
Birmingham Farms, Inspiration and the newer neighborhoods: Young landscaping, rock beds and nearby open land. Fire ants, scorpions and field mice move in from the construction edges.
Around Founders Park and the Wylie sports fields: Big open turf and lights, with fire ants in the fields and crickets and spiders at nearby homes.
Lake living and mosquitoes
Lavon Lake is a big part of why people love Wylie, and it's the main reason Wylie mosquito season runs long. Still water in coves, low spots that don't drain, clogged gutters and plant saucers all add to it. We treat the shady, humid places where adult mosquitoes rest during the day, such as under decks, in dense shrubs and along fence lines, and we show you where water is standing in your yard.

Wylie pests by season
Spring: Termite swarmers around older homes, and ant trails in kitchens after rain.
Summer: Mosquitoes near the lake, American cockroaches coming up from drains, and fire ants after storms.
Fall: Mice and roof rats move indoors. Crickets and spiders gather at doors.
Winter: German cockroaches indoors and rodents in attics. Time to seal up.

Wylie pest control FAQ
We found big roaches in our older Wylie home. Does that mean the house is dirty?
No. Those are usually American cockroaches. They live in drains, sewers and damp crawl spaces and wander in no matter how clean the house is. We treat the entry points and the areas where they're coming from.

We live by Lavon Lake. When does mosquito season end?
Usually after the first hard freeze, which in Wylie can be late fall. Warm spells can bring them back for a while.
Do older downtown homes need a termite inspection?
We recommend one, especially for pier-and-beam homes or before you buy or sell. We also do WDI reports.
Do you serve Murphy, Lucas and Sachse?
We serve Murphy, Lucas and the rest of Collin County. Ask us about Sachse addresses when you request an estimate.
What if pests come back between visits?
On the quarterly plan, re-treatments are free.
