The Most Effective Termite Control Solution for Your McKinney Property

5/15/2023

It's no secret that termites can cause a lot of problems around your home. These are some of the most destructive types of insects that are known to invade homes and residential properties. These small bugs will quietly invade your home and could cause a lot of damage before you even know they are there.

At Around The Block Pest Control, we have a team of highly-trained McKinney pest control specialists that know the best way to find and eliminate a termite infestation.

The Life Cycle Of A Termite Colony

Subterranean termites are the most common type of termite found in McKinney. True to their name, these tiny creatures like to live under the ground. They typically build large underground nests that have elaborate tunnel systems and nesting areas. In order to keep their colonies running like a well-oiled machine, termites have developed a caste system, and each adult termite belongs to a specific group within the colony. Once the termite reaches full maturity, it will go into one of three groups:

  • Soldier: The soldier's only job is to defend their colony. They are completely blind, but they use other senses to detect enemies and defend their colony. They usually have dark-colored heads that are larger than most other termites' heads. They also have a pair of sharp mandibles that stick out in front of their face that they use to attack their enemies.

  • Worker: The workers have a lot of responsibilities within the colony. Like the soldier termites, the workers are also completely blind, but they don't let that get in the way of foraging for food, building the nest, taking care of the king and queen, and feeding and caring for the baby termites.

  • Reproductive: The reproductive termites are the only ones in the colony that can see. They are also the only type of termite with wings and can fly.

When one colony starts to get too crowded, the reproductive termites will leave the nest to find a mate. They are commonly referred to as swarmer termites because they swarm around while searching for their mate. Once they have found a mate, both the male and female will lose their wings and become the queen and king of a whole new colony.

Unsubtle Signs Of  Termite Damage

When termites invade your home, you may not notice any damage for the first few months. However, once they have been there for a while, you will begin to see subtle signs of damage. For example, you may notice the paint on your walls start to peel, or you may see small holes in the wooden surface of your home.

Once the termites have been on your property for several months or even years, you will start to notice more unsubtle signs, which may include buckling floorboards, hollow wood, brittle wooden surfaces, and even sagging ceilings.

Reasons And Factors For Termite Infestations

The termites commonly found in this area like to live in places that have a lot of moisture and dead wood. If your yard does not have a good drainage system, or the gutters on your home are clogged and cause water to accumulate nearby, you may start to see flying termites around your house, looking for a new place to start their colony.
